This week’s enlightenments will be mostly about the online world. There’s so much at work right now in the online universe, as I write this, that some of the facts seem unbelievable.

 

1. Every minute, 72 hours of YouTube videos are uploaded !

 

2. 19% of married couples meet online.

 

3. About 2 Billion electrons are required to produce one email message.

 

4. Google estimates that the Internet today contains about 5 million terabytes of data; where 1 terabyte is 1000 gigabytes.

 

5. 247 Billion emails are sent everyday, and 80% of them are all spam.

 

6.  There are 7 people in the world who hold the “key to the internet”.  If in the event of a major catastrophe the internet is shut down, these key holders will together be able to reboot an integral part of the system.

 

7.  The internet accrued 50 million users in just 5 years. It took TV 13 years to do that.

 

8. This was the first ever website on the Internet –  http://info.cern.ch  with a total of 153 words.

 

9. Most people spend about 10% of their entire lives just surfing social media sites.

 

10. The first YouTube video was uploaded April 23, 2005. It’s called “Me at the zoo,” and features Jawed Karim, one of the founders, at the San Diego Zoo.
